Watch Out for These Signs: Suicide Prevention Month
August 4th, 2025
September is Suicide Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness, offer support, and remind our community that help is always available and healing is possible.
At Infinity Health, we’re committed to providing compassionate, confidential behavioral health services for individuals and families of all ages. We know that mental health struggles can feel overwhelming, but no one should have to face them alone.
If you or someone you love is struggling, reaching out can be the first step toward hope and recovery. Our team is here to listen without judgment and provide the care and resources you need to move forward. Together, we can break the stigma around mental health and create a stronger, healthier community.

If you notice these behaviors, don’t wait. Trust your instincts and encourage a conversation.

Know the Warning Signs
Suicide doesn’t always look the way we expect. Often, the signs are subtle. That’s why knowing what to look for and when to reach out can make all the difference.
Here are some common signs to watch for in yourself or someone you care about:
- Talking about feeling hopeless, worthless, or like a burden
- Withdrawing from family, friends, or activities they once enjoyed
- Changes in sleep: too much or too little
- Increased use of alcohol or drugs
- Giving away belongings or saying goodbye
- Sudden mood swings or calmness after a period of depression
- Expressing thoughts of being better off dead
What You Can Do
You don’t need to be a therapist to help someone who’s struggling. You just need to be present, listen without judgment, and connect them to professional support.
Here are three steps you can take:
- Ask directly: “Are you thinking about hurting yourself?”
- Stay with them: Let them know they’re not alone.
- Get help: Encourage them to speak to a counselor or reach out to Infinity Health.
Most importantly: If someone is in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. Even if it’s a hard decision. It can feel overwhelming or even scary to involve emergency services, but when a life is at risk, safety has to come first. You may feel like you are betraying their trust, but making this call can make all the difference. Let them know you’re doing it because you care and want them to be safe.
